Tottenham were reduced to ten men in the first half of their match against Liverpool. The team was let down by Xavi Simons, who committed a reckless foul in the 33rd minute.
The Spurs winger stepped on the Achilles of his Netherlands national teammate Virgil van Dijk from behind. Referee Brooks initially showed Simons a yellow card, but a couple of minutes later, after a VAR review, he stopped the game.
After reviewing the replay, the referee changed his decision and sent the Tottenham player off early, showing him a straight red card. Freeze frames clearly show it was a harsh foul, so there can be no complaints about the official's verdict.
The first half in London ended goalless.
