Pyramids FC Request League Match Postponement Ahead of CAF Champions League Final

Pyramids FC have officially requested the postponement of their final Egyptian Premier League match against Ceramica Cleopatra, citing fixture congestion around their historic CAF Champions League final showdown with Mamelodi Sundowns.
With just two points separating them from league leaders Al Ahly and three games remaining, the title race is on a knife’s edge. Pyramids submitted a formal letter to the Egyptian Clubs Association, asking for their 28 May match—set for Suez Canal Authority Stadium—to be rescheduled.
CAF Final Takes Priority
The club’s request follows their qualification for the two-legged CAF Champions League final, which will see them face South African giants Mamelodi Sundowns on:
- 24 May (Away in Pretoria)
- 1 June (Home in Cairo)
“The team will be in Pretoria from 19 to 25 May. It's unthinkable to play a crucial league game just 48 hours after returning, and 72 hours before the continental final,” the club stated in its letter.
League Schedule at Risk
If approved, Pyramids’ request would push back the end of the league season, potentially clashing with Al Ahly’s preparations for the FIFA Club World Cup, which takes place in the U.S. from 15 June to 13 July.
The knock-on effect could also delay the opening of the summer transfer window, originally set for 2 June, especially with the Egypt Cup final between Zamalek and Pyramids now moved to 5 June.
As Pyramids chase a first-ever CAF title and remain in domestic title contention, the Egyptian football calendar faces major disruption—and high-stakes decisions now lie with the country’s football authorities.
