Pitso Mosimane's calls for scrapping of the away goal rule in African tournaments to create more competition
Pitso Mosimane has called on the powers that are in charge of African football to scrap the away goal rule in Caf competitions.
Mosimane said by no longer having this rule, it will allow more of open games and games will be more entertaining than now.
"I was watching PSG in the semi-finals of the European Champions League,” said Mosimane to iDiski Times.
“The biggest thing that has ever happened, which is good for football, is what Europe has done – getting rid of the away-goal rule. Now you have 5-4, 4-3, 3-2 scores because no one sits back.
“The one thing I would say is that we need (in Africa) to get rid of that away-goal rule then we can have open games. So, if it’s 2-2 in the first leg at my home, I’m still in with a chance because they still have to play for a goal.
“You know what I’m saying? So, I think the away-goal rule is what really creates challenges for us.”
Mosiman is a former Mamelodi Sundowns and Al-Ahly coach and he is currently unattached, though he is rumoured to be heading to Kaizer Chiefs next season.
Ahead of Sunday's match between ASFAR and Sundowns in Rabat, Morocco, Mosimane said his former club should clinch this season's Caf Champions League trophy.
"Listen, there’s no chance they can’t win it,” he added.
“Al Ahly is out, Pyramids is out. Wydad is not there. Esperance is not there. Come on. Hey, even Raja is not there.”
Sundowns will enter the second leg match with a slender lead of 1-0 from a Aubrey Modiba goal last Sunday at home.
