Orlando Pirates triumph over arch-rivals Kaizer Chiefs in a 3-0 win at FNB Stadium to return to the top of the Betway Premiership standings
Orlando Pirates are back on top of the Betway Premiership standings after thumping Kaizer Chiefs 3-0 this afternoon at FNB Stadium.
Tshepang Moremi, Oswin Appollis and Evidence Makgopa scored the goals for the Sea Robbers at a sold out Nasrec Venue.
Moremi and Appollis scored in the first stanza while Makgopa netted his goal in the second half.
This one was a one sided affair from the onset with Pirates being the dominant side in this Soweto Derby.
And this means that Pirates now three points above Mamelodi Sundowns on the PSL standings with the PSL defending champions playing against Sekhukhune United tomorrow afternoon.
The loss dents Amakhosi's chances of challenging for the Betway Premiership trophy as they are now in huge doubt.
They remain fourth with 30 points while Sundowns and Pirates points tally would seem unreachable for them.
Chiefs made a change in goals with Bruce Bvuma coming in for Brandon Peterson who has been under-performing lately.
Bvuma, tough, did not cover himself in glory as he was not as solid given how easily Pirates scored their goals.
Defender Inacio Miguel also made a return to the Amakhosi starting line-up after an injury lay off.
But it was not a worthy display from Chiefs as Pirates were deserved winners of this Soweto Derby.
