Oh no! Liverpool leader missed training. Is it serious?
Liverpool have received a worrying update ahead of their European opener.
Details: According to The Times journalist Paul Joyce, Cody Gakpo was absent from Liverpool training on Tuesday. However, the Dutch forward's absence is understood to have been purely precautionary rather than confirmation of a serious injury.
Gakpo has not been ruled out of Liverpool's Champions League meeting with Atletico Madrid, so there is currently no indication that the winger is facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines. The Reds are nevertheless unlikely to take unnecessary risks with one of their most productive attacking players at the start of a demanding run of fixtures.
His possible absence would create an opportunity for summer signing Bradley Barcola, who is pushing for more minutes after making his Liverpool debut from the bench in the 2-0 Premier League victory over Ipswich.
Gakpo has started the new campaign in impressive form. He provided both assists for Alexander Isak in the win over Ipswich and has already registered one goal and three assists this season. That productivity makes any fitness concern surrounding the Netherlands international particularly important for Liverpool ahead of their European schedule.
