Official! El Clásico referee finally revealed
The refereeing mystery surrounding El Clásico has finally been resolved.
Details: The Spanish Football Federation's Technical Committee of Referees has officially appointed Juan Martínez Munuera to officiate the highly anticipated clash between Barcelona and Real Madrid on Sunday, October 25, at Camp Nou. The match will kick off at 21:00 local time.
Javier Iglesias Villanueva has been appointed as the VAR official for the biggest fixture in Spanish football. The decision comes after several days of speculation and controversy surrounding the identity of the referee.
Earlier reports suggested that Alejandro Hernández Hernández was among the leading candidates to take charge of the match. However, his possible appointment became the subject of heated discussions after Real Madrid head coach José Mourinho publicly questioned how information about the potential referee had leaked before the official announcement.
Interestingly, this will be Martínez Munuera's fifth El Clásico. In the previous four meetings between the Spanish giants under his supervision, Real Madrid secured three victories, while Barcelona won just once.
It is worth noting that the 44-year-old Spanish official has been refereeing in La Liga since 2013 and has held FIFA international referee status since 2015.
