Official: Chelsea sign former Arsenal and Manchester United player
London’s Chelsea have officially announced the signing of striker Danny Welbeck. The 35-year-old English forward has joined from Brighton and signed a two-year contract with the Blues.
After sealing the deal, Welbeck shared his first thoughts on the move.
I’m truly honoured to be joining a club of this stature at a time that feels genuinely exciting. I had excellent conversations with the manager, and I already feel that connection, said Chelsea’s newest signing.
Welbeck is a product of the Manchester United academy. He made his debut for the Red Devils’ first team in 2008, going on to win two Premier League titles, the English League Cup, the Community Shield, and the FIFA Club World Cup with the club.
Over the years, the forward was also loaned out to Preston and Sunderland before joining Arsenal in 2014. With the Gunners, he lifted the FA Cup twice and claimed the Community Shield three times.
In 2020, Welbeck moved to Brighton, where he managed to reignite his career. Across several seasons, he became one of the team’s leaders, helped the club qualify for European competition for the first time in its history, and established himself as a seasoned striker known not just for his goal-scoring, but also for his tremendous work rate on the pitch.
