NSC Chairman Shehu Dikko Confirms Super Eagles Match Bonuses Approved Ahead of AFCON 2025 Clash With Algeria
The Chairman of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Shehu Dikko, has confirmed that match bonuses for Super Eagles players and team officials have been approved and are currently being processed for payment.
Dikko’s clarification follows reports claiming that some Super Eagles players were considering boycotting training sessions and delaying their travel to Marrakech ahead of Saturday’s AFCON 2025 quarter-final encounter against Algeria.
Speaking to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the NSC chairman dismissed the speculation, emphasizing that all financial commitments for the tournament had already been settled. He revealed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu approved the entire AFCON 2025 budget on November 14, 2025, ensuring full alignment between the NSC, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), and the players.
“The president approved the full AFCON budget on November 14, 2025. From our end, the funding has been completely cleared,” Dikko stated. “Approval is one thing, processing is another, but the players are aware that the money has been approved.”
