Cristiano Ronaldo has announced the end of his international career, but his farewell to Portugal may not unfold as supporters imagined! The federation wants to celebrate its legendary captain, yet a report from Portugal suggests he has no intention of returning for one last appearance.

Details: According to Portuguese newspaper Observador, Ronaldo does not currently want to play a farewell match for the national team after announcing his retirement on November 5. The Portuguese Football Federation still hopes to organise a tribute, but no format has been confirmed. The refusal to play again is reported by the newspaper, rather than announced in a separate official statement.

The situation is tied to his strained relationship with head coach Jorge Jesus. Observador reports that a telephone conversation between the two was scheduled for Thursday, with federation president Pedro Proença acting as mediator. The call never happened, and the 41 year old striker reportedly does not wish to speak to the coach. Jesus had intended to name Ronaldo in the squad for November's Nations League fixtures against Denmark and Wales.

The disagreement dates back to the September international window, when Ronaldo left Portugal's camp following a dispute involving his role under Jesus. Despite the coach leaving the door open for a return, Ronaldo made his retirement public one day before the next squad announcement. Proença was reportedly informed of the decision in advance.

It's worth noting that Ronaldo's retirement from Portugal is confirmed, while the exact form of any tribute remains undecided. According to FIFA, he finishes with a men's international record of 234 appearances and 146 goals, having won Euro 2016 and the Nations League in 2019 and 2025. A ceremony could still take place without another match.

Reminder: The conflict continues! Ronaldo keeps his feud with Jorge Jesus alive.
