The conflict continues! Ronaldo keeps his feud with Jorge Jesus alive
Cristiano Ronaldo's farewell to Portugal has taken a surprising turn behind the scenes.
Details: According to Medialivre, the 41-year-old striker did not inform Portugal head coach Jorge Jesus of his decision to retire from international football. The Portuguese outlet reports that Ronaldo had not been answering the coach's calls for several weeks and instead communicated his decision to Portuguese Football Federation president Pedro Proença. Jesus had reportedly intended to include Ronaldo in his squad announcement scheduled for Friday, November 6.
Ronaldo officially announced his international retirement on November 5, just one day before Portugal's next squad announcement. The revelation suggests that Jesus was preparing to bring the legendary captain back without knowing that he had already made his final decision.
Relations between Ronaldo and Jesus had already deteriorated following the September international break. The forward left Portugal's training camp after a disagreement over his playing time, although the coach subsequently insisted that the door remained open for his return.
It's worth noting that Ronaldo made his Portugal debut in 2003 and helped the national team win Euro 2016 and the UEFA Nations League in 2019 and 2025. He ends his international career with a record 234 appearances and 146 goals for Portugal.
