Nigeria’s Head Coach Eric Chelle Alleges DR Congo Used “Voodoo” During Penalty Shootout
Nigeria’s head coach Eric Chelle has claimed that players from DR Congo were performing “voodoo” rituals during the penalty shootout that decided Sunday’s CAF World Cup play-off final.
DR Congo edged Nigeria 4–3 on penalties after a 1–1 draw, securing their place in the March inter-confederation play-offs and officially knocking the Super Eagles out of the World Cup qualification race.
Speaking to reporters after the heartbreaking defeat, Chelle expressed his discomfort with what he witnessed on the pitch. “During the penalty session, a guy from Congo did some voodoo every time — every time,” he said. “So this is why I was a little nervous after him.”
