Nigeria Blasts Past Algeria into AFCON Semis
Nigeria’s Super Eagles booked their spot in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations semifinals with a clinical 2-0 victory over Algeria at the Stade de Marrakech. Following a feisty, goalless opening half, Nigeria seized control immediately after the restart.
Victor Osimhen broke the deadlock in the 47th minute, meeting a Bruno Onyemaechi cross with a powerful downward header. The Super Eagles doubled their advantage in the 57th minute when Osimhen unselfishly squared the ball for Akor Adams to tap into an empty net after rounding goalkeeper Luca Zidane.
Algeria, the 2019 champions, failed to register a single shot on target throughout the match. Frustrations boiled over in stoppage time with a touchline scuffle. Nigeria faces hosts Morocco in the upcoming semifinals on January 14.
