Miguel Cardoso explains his role in VAR fiasco in the Caf Champions League final in Pretoria
Miguel Cardoso has disclosed his role in the VAR debacle which played out at Loftus Versveld yesterday against ASFAR.
There was drama at the restart after half time in Pretoria when the game between Mamelodi Sundowns ASFAR took the field in their Caf Champions League first leg final.
But Democratic Republic of Congo referee, Jean-Jacques Ndala, who was in charge of the match called the captains of both teams to explain that the VAR technology has gone offline.
This caused resistance in the visitor's camp as the Moroccan side refused to continue with the match without the technology.
The delay went on to be about 20 minutes long until the North Africans acceded to play without VAR.
Sundowns coach, Cardoso, has explained his role swaying his compatriot, Alexandre Santos, who is in charge of the visitors, to play the game despite the unavailability of VAR.
"Today I saw a lot of sports spirit between the players, the coaches and the staff. Even when the VAR was not working you saw me speaking with the coach and we told each other, guys we represent Africa, we need to give a good example to the world after what happened in the AFCON and we have to play this match. Even without VAR let's go and I think it was very beautiful to see how everybody understood with each other,” said Cardoso after the game.
