Manchester City face a 50-point deduction as decision date in financial case revealed
New details have emerged in the dispute between Manchester City and the Premier League over alleged breaches of financial rules. According to Football Insider, the league expects to receive a decision on the club’s appeal at the beginning of the new year.
One potential punishment could be a deduction of 40 to 50 points in a single season. Possible sanctions also include relegation from the Premier League and transfer restrictions.
Former club financial adviser Stefan Borson believes imposing both a transfer ban and a large points deduction or relegation would be an excessive punishment. In his view, relegation would force Manchester City to reduce its wage bill and sell players, while a transfer ban would leave the club unable to fully rebuild its squad.
Journalist Pete O'Rourke claims that Manchester City are currently remaining calm and confident in their position. The final verdict on the appeal should clarify whether the club can avoid sanctions and what punishment it could face.
Manchester City were previously found guilty on 114 of the 115 charges. The club categorically denies any wrongdoing and continues to challenge the verdict. At the same time, the possible consequences for the team in the event of an unsuccessful appeal are already being discussed.
