Liam Bern relieved his career can continue as he signs for AmaZulu after Cape Town Spurs withdraws legal proceedings against his move
The legal wrangling between AmaZulu new signing Liam Bern and former club Cape Town Spurs has left the midfielder has left the player scarred.
Bern, unveiled this week by Usuthu, was a subject of legal proceedings regarding his free agent status as Spurs contested they needed compensation following their relegation from National First Division to ABC Motsepe League.
This was the same boat Kaizer Chiefs duo of Asanele Velebayi and Luke Baartman found themselves in until they were declared free agents by Safa Arbitration.
With Bern, Spurs had to abandon their legal move as it proved worthless given that the player held the same status as Velebayi and Baartman.
“I won’t lie, mentally it affected me, but there are some great people here at AmaZulu, such as the coach, who really helped me to keep me positive,” said Bern this week after being unveiled at the Durban club.
“Also the players, to be honest, as well as my mom and sister – I wouldn’t have been able to do it without them.
“Definitely, this is not the way I wanted to leave, it’s sad the way we left.
“It’s not something I would have liked to happen. Unfortunately it did.”
Arthur Zwane's side are presently sixth on the PSL standings and Berns joins them them alongside Langelihle Mhlongo, who also arrived from Richards Bay.
Usuthu host Siwelele FC today in a Betway Premiership match at Moses Mabhida Stadium for a 3.30pm kickoff match.
