Lebohang Maboe on his third successive Man of the Match Award for Kaizer Chiefs: I am one recipient but the whole team has done well in recent games
Lebohang Maboe has cut a modest figure when asked about bagging four Betway Premiership awards in three successive games for Kaizer Chiefs.
It has been a redemptive kind of performance from the former Mamelodi Sundowns man as since he joined Amakhosi, he seemed to have found a new lease on his football life.
Maboe joined Chiefs in the off-season from the now-defunct SuperSport United and has become a key figure in Chiefs’ starting line-up.
“I’m very excited with the performance,” said Maboe on SuperSport TV after Chiefs’ 3-1 victory over Orbit College on Monday afternoon, the latest match where received the Man o the Match Award.
“We didn’t start well in the first 20 minutes but I’m proud of the team. You know we kept on fighting we never gave up. And I think most importantly we kept pushing and believing that we are going to turn this game around.
“I’m just a mere recipient of this award. This goes to the hard work we’ve been putting in with the team, helping one another, all pulling in the same direction. And I just happened to receive the award but great, great work by my teammates.
“I think we all knew that we didn’t start the game well. It was a matter of just saying hey gents let’s wake up, let’s just get that first goal and once we get the first goal we are going to keep pushing to get a second goal and then a third goal.
“I think we noticed they were getting a bit tired in the second half. So we just told ourselves that let’s not give up, let’s just keep on wanting more and just keep on demanding more from one another and great, great team work out there.”
