"It's hard to comprehend" - coach of incredible Georgia on reaching the playoffs

The Georgian national team defeated Portugal 2-0 in the final match of the European Championship group stage. Thus, the Georgians earned three points and advanced to the Euro playoffs from third place.

Head coach Willy Sagnol admitted that he does not remember what he told the players before the game.

"Honestly, I don't remember what I said to the players before the match, but the message was to play their own game. To be disciplined when the opponent had the ball, and to play when we had it.

I advised them to recall how they played when they were 16-17 years old, and today they executed brilliantly, exceeding all expectations," the coach explained.

He added that it is difficult to comprehend what is happening now, as they are still in the tournament. This can only be assessed at the end of the Euro.

"We are still focused on the tournament; it's hard to grasp what we have achieved—it will probably sink in when we lose. I don't have many words, but I am very proud of the players for the image of Georgia they have shown in these three matches. I am proud to be their coach," Willy Sagnol added.

For Georgia, this is their first European Championship in history. In their debut tournament, they made it to the playoffs.
