This week marked the start of a new ATP-level tournament, taking place in Monte Carlo. However, a sensation unfolded right in the first round.
Details: Novak Djokovic faced Chilean tennis player Alejandro Tabilo. This was their second head-to-head meeting. Last year, Tabilo defeated the Serbian 2-0 and repeated his success this time. The Chilean took the first set 6-3 in 38 minutes. The second set lasted a bit longer—50 minutes—but once again went to Tabilo, 6-4.
As a result, Novak Djokovic lost 0-2 and exited the Monte Carlo tournament at the first round stage.
The Serbian tennis star admitted after the match that he expected something entirely different, but it turned out to be a real nightmare.
Quote: "Well, at least I hoped to put on a decent performance. But it didn't happen. It was terrible. I didn't have high expectations, to be honest. I knew I was up against a tough opponent and suspected I might not play my best. But to play this poorly—I didn't anticipate that. Just awful. It's a terrible feeling to play like that, and I just feel sorry for everyone who witnessed it," Djokovic stated.
Reminder: Djokovic had previously admitted that after a conversation with Messi's son, he feels pressure.
