Idrissa Gueye, an 18-year-old Senegalese attacker, scored a vital goal in FC Metz's 3-1 victory over Paris FC, making her dream of playing for the team a stunning reality.
The former Génération Foot player, who had been out of action since April because of a serious leg injury, defied expectations with a remarkable debut at Saint-Symphorien. Gueye scored a key goal in the 55th minute with a powerful header after a superb cross from Gauthier Hein. This goal snapped Metz's four-game scoring drought and demonstrated Gueye's obvious skill.
However, Gueye's match ended on a mixed note. While celebrating his goal, he got injured in a collision and had to be substituted in the 72nd minute. He was later taken to the hospital for dental treatment. Despite this, his captain, Matthieu Udol, joked, "A goal and two teeth—not a bad start for his first game!"
Metz's sporting director, Frédéric Arpinon, who was instrumental in signing Gueye, compared him to French star Olivier Giroud. He praised Gueye for his height, technical skills, and ability in the air.
Coach Stéphane Le Mignan made the risky choice to promote Gueye to the first team. The risk was worthwhile, since Gueye's performance not only gave Metz's attack new life, but it also suggested that the talented striker would have a bright future.
