After Marc-André ter Stegen's injury, Barcelona faced a goalkeeper dilemma and began searching for a replacement. While their exploration of the free agent market did not yield satisfactory results, and they even approached Wojciech Szczęsny about returning to football, head coach Hansi Flick has made it clear that Iñaki Peña will remain the club's first-choice keeper.

Details: At a pre-match press conference ahead of Barcelona's clash with Sevilla on October 20, Flick was asked who would defend the net. The German coach confirmed that there are no plans for a rotation, and Iñaki Peña will be the starting goalkeeper. He also revealed that Peña is expected to start in Barcelona's upcoming UEFA Champions League match against Bayern Munich next week.

Quote: "There’s no reason for any changes. Iñaki Peña will start.

I can also confirm that the plan is for him to start next week against Bayern Munich.

I’m happy with Szczęsny, but there’s no reason to make changes right now," said Hansi Flick, as quoted by Fabrizio Romano.

Reminder: Since Ter Stegen's injury, Peña has played four full matches, conceding five goals, four of which came in a match against Villarreal. Last season, Peña also filled in for Ter Stegen during his injury, playing in 17 matches from November 2023 to February of this year.
