Today, Barcelona faces Villarreal away in their La Liga matchday 6 clash, but the Catalans have suffered the loss of another key player during the game.

Details: Towards the end of the first half, Barcelona’s captain and first-choice goalkeeper, Marc-André ter Stegen, sustained a serious injury.

During a corner kick, ter Stegen leaped high to claim the ball but landed awkwardly. The German goalkeeper had to be stretchered off the pitch, and all indications suggest he may have sustained a significant knee injury.

The exact nature and timeline of his recovery will be confirmed after a medical examination. However, according to Xavi Miguel’s report, the initial diagnosis from the medical staff suggests that ter Stegen could be sidelined for 7 to 9 months.

Ter Stegen was replaced by his backup, Iñaki Peña, who also deputized for the German last season, playing 17 matches.

Reminder: Ter Stegen recently faced heavy criticism after Barcelona’s 1-2 defeat to Monaco in the Champions League, with numerous memes circulating online mocking his performance.
