Hummels reacts to his absence from Germany's Euro 2024 bid

German national team head coach Julian Nagelsmann has already announced the Bundestim's bid for the European Championships at home, which, however, did not include some of the leaders of Borussia Dortmund, who will play in the Champions League final on 1 June.
The Bumblebees' defender Mats Hummels will also not play at Euro 2024, although he did not make it to the team's March training camp, he does not hide his disappointment at Nagelsmann's decision:
"I understand that since March the team has played among themselves. For me, as a person, it is bitter, because I realise that I am one of the five best defenders in Germany, I am sure of it. If I had made it to the last training camp in March, I could have been with them and also in the squad for the Euros."
Hummels, though, struggled to find a logical explanation for his non-call-up, even though he was willing to be a substitute player:
"Told Nagelsmann that I would sit on the bench and could also be a fifth centre-back, I would have done it. He knew about my attitude. I wanted him to know that. But as far as I understood him, it was about other things than accepting a substitute role. As I understand it, it was more about age, for example my physical abilities," Hummels told Bild.
