Hope Rekindled: Eduardo Vargas Begins Process That Could Lead to U de Chile Return

According to TNT Sports journalist Marcelo Díaz, Eduardo Vargas has started making arrangements to move back to Chile. The development has reignited hopes among Universidad de Chile fans of a potential return of the iconic forward, just as the club prepares for the second half of the season, including the national league and the Copa Sudamericana round of 16.
Although the club’s management recently downplayed the likelihood of a reunion, this move suggests otherwise. Speaking on Pelota Parada, Díaz said Vargas is “handling the paperwork to move to Chile,” calling it a clear indication that the striker could be planning a permanent return.
Vargas, Chile’s second all-time top scorer, is not currently a top target for manager Gustavo Álvarez, but the club’s board is reportedly open to a deal if it fits within their budget. At 34, the veteran forward may welcome the idea of returning to the club where he first rose to fame.
During his first stint at Universidad de Chile between 2010 and 2011, Vargas played 79 matches, scored 31 goals, and provided 13 assists in 5,537 minutes. With those credentials and a strong bond with the fans, the idea of his return feels more real than ever.
