"He was obviously tired." The French national team coach explained the reason for replacing Mbappe
Yesterday, the Euro 2024 quarter-final match between France and Portugal took place. The regular time ended in a 0-0 draw, and the game went into overtime.
The star of Les Bleus, Kylian Mbappé, left the field after the first extra time, raising questions among fans. However, French head coach Didier Deschamps was quick to explain his decision. After the match, he stated that their forward was struggling due to a lack of training following a broken nose sustained in the first match against Austria. His words were quoted by Mirror:
"He is obviously tired because muscularly, after what he had, it is not easy. I already saw him struggling in the first part of extra-time.
There was no point in leaving him even if he was a penalty taker. Kylian has always been honest with me and the group. It seemed normal to me to bring in some freshness."
It should be noted that Kylian Mbappé broke his nose after a collision with an Austrian defender in the first match of Euro 2024. Consequently, he missed the match against the Netherlands but returned to play against Poland.
France will face Spain in the Euro 2024 semi-finals, as Spain defeated Germany in extra time yesterday.
