Portugal and France faced off to determine the second semifinalist of UEFA Euro 2024.

Spain had already secured a spot among the tournament's top four teams, having eliminated the hosts, Germany (2-1). According to the bracket, today's winner would face Spain in the next round.

In the first half, both teams played cautiously, focusing more on defense than taking risks. The nature of the game was best reflected in the statistics: both teams combined for just one shot on target.

In the second half, the teams became more aggressive. Mike Maignan showcased his skills twice, notably saving a backheel shot from Cristiano Ronaldo.

France responded with a promising chance from Kolo Muani, but his shot from a favorable position was blocked. Then, after a shot from Eduardo Camavinga, Diogo Costa saved Portugal from conceding a goal.

The match then returned to a calmer pace and proceeded into extra time. But there were no goals in the two additional 15 minutes.

The winner of the confrontation was determined in a penalty shootout. More accurate penalties were performed by France. France realized all their kicks, while for the Portuguese, Joao Felix missed.

Interestingly, Le Blais won their first penalty shootout at a major tournament since 1998.

Tomorrow, the remaining quarterfinal matches will be played: England vs. Switzerland and the Netherlands vs. Turkey.
