Details: According to insider Shams Charania, Gay has officially announced his retirement. In 2006, he was selected in the first round of the NBA Draft as the 8th overall pick by the Houston Rockets, but he began his professional career with the Memphis Grizzlies.
In his second season, he set a franchise record for points scored in a single season (1,632). He participated in the Slam Dunk Contest during the winter and finished second in the voting for the NBA's Most Improved Player, losing out to Hedo Türkoğlu.
Overall, Rudy Gay played for Memphis, Toronto, Sacramento, San Antonio, and Utah. Regarding his international career, he was a world champion in 2010 and 2014 with Team USA.
