Gavin Hunt's Stellenbosch FC falls in Algeria as CR Belouizdad beat them 2-0 in the Caf Confederation Cup as Stellies are still finding their tune

Gavin Hunt’s Caf Confederation Cup start with Stellenbosch was not a favourable one. The Cape Winelands side lost 2-0 to Algerian side CR Belouizdad in North Africa last night.

Hunt’s just began his era at Stellies after replacing long serving Steve Barker and has seemingly trying to find his feet still.

The former SuperSport United and Kaizer Chiefs coach took charge of Stellies three weeks ago and has not been in charge for long for the team to achieve consistency.

Last week they won their maiden PSL clash against Sekhukhune United under Hunt but lost to Sead Ramovic’s Belouizdad.

The 2-0 loss at Nelson Mandela Stadium in Algeria, though, did not change their standing in their group as they are still second behind CR Belouizdad, who have six points while Stellies have four with also Tanzania’s Singida Black Stars third with four points.

This weekend the Algerians will fly down to South Africa for the return match against Stellenbosch. Stelleies were supposed to play against Golden Arrows in Durban tomorrow for a Betway Premiership match but it is postponed dueto their Caf commitments.

Given their precarious position on the Betway Premiership table, Stellies will want to ensure they win the PSL matches.

They are on the 13th spot and desperate to climb the table to ease their relegation woes as the PSL season is headed for the finish line as the second half of the campaign is underway.
