FIFA will host a World Cup for the polarizing esports game Rocket League. It is noted that this discipline will be part of the FIFAe World Cup in 2024.
Sixteen countries from around the globe will be invited to select their best players. Players can register for the tournament on FIFA.GG.
“The FIFAe World Championship featuring Rocket League marks a new era for FIFAe, providing FIFA member associations with an innovative platform to compete in one of the most relevant esports titles. This landmark partnership underscores our commitment to developing our football esports ecosystem and continuing to build the biggest stages for all communities to celebrate their game,” stated FIFA's Director of eFootball and Gaming, Christian Volk.
In this new Rocket League competition, each country will field three players and one substitute. Countries are chosen based on factors such as player base and previous performances by players from those countries.
Participating associations will have the opportunity to hold their own qualifying tournaments to identify the best players to represent their countries at the tournament.
