FIFA has announced the host nations for the 2030 and 2034 World Cups, but it appears they violated their own regulations in the process.
Details: According to The New York Times, FIFA’s rules stipulate that the 211 member nations of the organization must select the host of a single tournament during one voting session. However, this time, hosts for two tournaments were chosen simultaneously. Additionally, there were no debates, with participants simply raising their hands and applauding to indicate their decision.
FIFA stated that the changes occurred following a comprehensive consultation process with all confederations. However, the organization has not explained why the bids for two tournaments were combined into one decision.
Cristiano Ronaldo has already commented on Portugal being selected as a co-host for the 2030 World Cup, stating that dreams do come true and expressing pride in his country.
FIFA has also announced that the 2034 World Cup will be hosted by Saudi Arabia.
Reminder: The draw for the 2025 Club World Cup has taken place, marking the first time the tournament will be played in a new format. A total of 32 teams from around the world have been divided into 8 groups of 4 teams.
