Today marks exactly ten years since the arrest of seven senior FIFA officials on the eve of the organization's congress in Zurich. Back then, sweeping reforms were promised, and now it's time to evaluate how those changes have fared.

Details: In a public statement released by the human rights group FairSquare, it is claimed that FIFA's current state of affairs is even worse than it was a decade ago.

The organization's failures include the new Club World Cup, the process of awarding Saudi Arabia the right to host the World Cup, and FIFA's increasing reliance on autocratic regimes in Russia, Saudi Arabia, and the United States.

Quote: "In February 2016, delegates at FIFA's extraordinary congress in Zurich voted 176 to 22 in favor of a series of structural reforms, and Gianni Infantino was elected FIFA president. 'We will restore FIFA's image and its respect. And the whole world will applaud us,' Mr. Infantino declared at the FIFA congress.

It is time to admit that these reforms have not ushered in a new era of responsible governance at FIFA and that the organization is structurally unfit to govern world football. It may well be that FIFA is managed even worse today than it was 10 years ago."
