Even Yamal got dragged into it! Real name the culprit behind their defeat to Atlético in the Madrid derby
Real Madrid TV did not let the officiating in the Madrid derby go unnoticed. After Real Madrid's 0-2 defeat to Atlético, the club's official television channel launched a scathing attack on the match referee, Miguel Ángel Ortiz Arias.
“We lost the derby because of the referee,” Real Madrid TV declared on air. An even more pointed remark followed: “The referee is Ortiz Arias, a friend of Lamine Yamal.”
The Matchday 7 La Liga clash was indeed not short of controversial incidents. One of the most hotly debated moments was Dean Huijsen's dismissal after VAR intervention. The Real Madrid defender was shown a straight red card, leaving the Madrid side down to ten men, and a penalty was also awarded against them.

It was after this incident that the situation became significantly more difficult for José Mourinho's team. Atlético took advantage of their numerical superiority and ultimately saw out the victory.
Huijsen's sending-off was not the only Ortiz Arias decision to come under scrutiny in the derby. Particular attention was drawn to Lee Kang-in's heavy tackle on Federico Valverde, which went unpunished with a red card. Former referee Pablo González Fuertes stated that the player could quite reasonably have been sent off for such a foul.
