For the first time since 1977! Atlético stun Real with a rare achievement!

In the 7th round of La Liga, Atlético Madrid defeated Real Madrid 2–1 at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano. The victory allowed Diego Simeone's side to achieve a unique milestone.

Details: The Mattress Makers have won two consecutive home league matches against their fierce rivals for the first time since 1977, following their 5–2 victory in September 2025.

The first half was a fiercely contested affair and ended goalless, but the game opened up completely after the break. In the 52nd minute, Real's centre-back Dean Huijsen was shown a straight red card for denying a clear goalscoring opportunity. Alejandro Grimaldo confidently converted the resulting penalty in the 53rd minute. Just five minutes later, in the 58th minute, Jonathan David doubled the hosts' advantage after being set up by Giuliano Simeone. Real responded only in the dying moments of the match, with Antonio Rüdiger heading home in the 89th minute, but the hosts held on calmly to secure all three points.

After seven matches, Atlético sit second with 16 points, while Real are 4th on 15 points.
