Eric Chelle: “It Would Have Been Difficult” to Continue as Super Eagles Coach If They Lost to Egypt

Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has admitted that losing to Egypt in the third-place playoff at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations could have put his future with the Nigerian national team at serious risk.

The match in Casablanca ended in a 0-0 draw, with both teams unable to find the breakthrough during regular time. The outcome was then decided by a penalty shootout, where Nigeria emerged victorious 4-2.

Goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali was the hero for the Super Eagles, saving crucial penalties from Egyptian stars Mohamed Salah and Omar Marmoush. His decisive performance ensured Nigeria secured the bronze medal and avoided the disappointment of a loss.
