English two-time world champion announced his retirement from international career
Moeen Ali, the England cricketer, has announced his decision to retire from the national team. He is a 2019 World Cup and 2022 T20 World Cup champion.
Details: Moeen made his debut for England in 2014 and became a key player for the team over the years. In 2021, he initially retired from international cricket but made a comeback two years later for the Ashes series against Australia, which ended in a draw.
Throughout his career, Moeen played in 68 Test matches, 138 One-Day Internationals, and 92 T20 matches for England. He became only the 16th player in history to score 3,000 runs and take 200 wickets in Test matches.
After not being selected for the upcoming series against Australia, Moeen decided to retire permanently from international cricket.
Quote: "I could have held on and tried to play for England again, but I know that realistically, it’s not going to happen.
Even in retiring, I don’t think it’s because I’m not good enough - I still feel I can play.
But I understand how things stand, and the team needs to move on to a new cycle. It’s about being realistic with yourself," Moeen told Daily Mail.
Reminder: In domestic cricket, Moeen represents Warwickshire, having previously played for Worcestershire. He has also featured in various T20 leagues, including stints with Royal Challengers Bangalore and Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League. Moeen has not indicated any plans to retire from domestic competitions, so we may still see him on the field in the future.
