Emam Ashour Suffers Comical Injury During Al Ahly’s Match Against Pachuca in Intercontinental Cup
Emam Ashour, Al Ahly’s midfielder, suffered an unusual injury during the team’s match against Pachuca in the 2024 Intercontinental Cup (also known as the “Challenge Cup”). The match, held at Stadium 974 in Doha, Qatar, saw Ashour sustain a comical injury just 30 minutes into the game.
Ashour was hurt when, just as the goalie was saving the ball, his own foot impacted his nose as he tried a strong shot from outside the box. Play was stopped for more than a minute while medical personnel hurried onto the field to treat Ashour. Thankfully, the player was able to carry on and play again without any significant problems.
Al Ahly's 3-0 victory over Al Ain of the United Arab Emirates in October guaranteed them a spot in this semifinal. Pachuca, meanwhile, secured their position by surprise everyone by defeating Botafogo of Brazil 3-0. On Wednesday, December 18, the victor of this game will play Real Madrid in the championship match.
