Elections will be held. President of the Brazilian federation withdraws appeal against suspension

Brazilian football has been rocked by a major scandal that led to the suspension of Ednaldo Rodrigues from his position as federation president. He was determined to fight for his seat until the very end, but ultimately ended his campaign prematurely.
Details: According to Reuters, Rodrigues has withdrawn his appeal against the decision of the Rio de Janeiro court and will not contest the position in the upcoming snap elections. He also announced that he will not endorse any candidate. Acting president of the Brazilian federation, Fernando Sarney, has scheduled the elections for next Sunday.
Under local rules, a candidate must receive backing from federations in eight states as well as five clubs to be eligible. So far, only one contender has managed to meet this requirement: Samir Ksaud, the newly elected president of the Roraima Football Federation, a state with limited influence in top-tier Brazilian football.
Recall: Earlier, the court found that the document allowing Rodrigues to remain in office until 2030 contained a forged signature.
