€20 million and it's almost done! Aston Villa close to major transfer from Atlético
Unai Emery is edging closer to bringing in a fresh reinforcement for the left flank of his defense.
Details: According to respected insider Fabrizio Romano, Aston Villa and Atlético have reached an agreement for the transfer of Matteo Ruggeri for €20 million. The Italian left-back has also given the green light for the move to the English club.
Aston Villa are now in talks with the player's representatives over personal terms. According to Romano, only a few formalities remain before the deal can be completed.
The transfer is now at an advanced stage, but it cannot be considered fully closed just yet.
It's worth noting that Transfermarkt values the 24-year-old Ruggeri at €28 million.
During the 2025/26 season, Matteo Ruggeri made 47 appearances for Atlético across all competitions, providing 7 assists. In La Liga, the Italian featured in 26 matches and registered 3 assists.
