Rafael Dudamel has been officially appointed as the new head coach of Deportivo Pereira, according to Futbolred. The Venezuelan tactician, well known in Colombian football for winning titles with Deportivo Cali and Atlético Bucaramanga, now steps in to replace Luis Fernando Suárez and aims to steer the club into the Liga BetPlay I-2025 playoffs.
Dudamel arrived in Pereira on Wednesday and immediately signed his contract, which reportedly runs through December 2026. The club's decision to offer a long-term deal reflects confidence in his ability to lead a sustained project. Joining him on the coaching staff are Marcos Mathias (assistant coach), Joseph Cañas (fitness coach), Cristián Rayo (goalkeeping coach), and Frank Romario (video analyst).
Currently, Pereira sit 12th in the standings with 13 points, just six behind the final playoff spot. With eight matches remaining in the regular season, Dudamel’s immediate challenge will be to revive the team's form and push for a place in the semifinals.
His debut is expected to come in a meaningful fixture, one that could set the tone for his tenure in charge. Pereira fans are hopeful that Dudamel's experience and tactical acumen can bring renewed competitiveness and long-term stability to the club.
