Drone Scandal: Canadian Women’s National Team Dismisses Head Coach
A scandalous incident occurred in the women’s football tournament at the Paris Olympics. After several months of investigation, Canada Soccer has made a decision.
Details: It has been reported that the Canadian soccer federation decided to dismiss head coach Bev Priestman. The investigation revealed not only the use of drones but also shed light on the national team’s culture, which is in need of reform.
While lawyers found no evidence that Canadian players benefited from drone footage, another issue surfaced: assistant coaches and other support staff "did not feel they could challenge the head coach's authority."
Quote: “The findings of the independent investigator indicate that the drone incident in Paris was symptomatic of an unacceptable culture and lack of oversight within the national teams. This is no longer part of our operations. In fact, the investigation results strengthen our resolve to continue making necessary changes to improve Canadian soccer in all aspects and to do so urgently.
Although the independent investigation is complete, there is still more to be done to set things on a new course,” stated Canada Soccer CEO Kevin Blue.
Reminder: Initially, Canada Soccer suspended Bev Priestman. New Zealand filed a complaint against Canada, alleging that its coaching staff used a drone to monitor the New Zealand team’s training sessions.
