Disgrace! Manchester United repeat an Old Trafford nightmare unseen for over 50 years

Old Trafford has witnessed a collapse that Manchester United had avoided for half a century.

United were unable to respond before the final whistle and were eliminated from the competition on their own ground despite having established a two-goal cushion inside the opening ten minutes.

According to Opta, Manchester United had not lost a match at Old Trafford after leading by at least two goals for more than 50 years. The previous such collapse came against Tottenham in September 1976, when the London club recovered to win 3-2.

It is worth noting that the defeat continued a difficult run for Manchester United: only three days earlier, the Red Devils had also lost 1-0 at Old Trafford to Manchester City in the Premier League.
