Three individuals have been charged in connection with the attempted blackmail of the family of seven-time Formula 1 world champion Michael Schumacher, demanding a sum of €15 million.
Details: According to Planetf1, this week German prosecutors in Wuppertal charged the three men, who are accused of attempting to extort the driver's family using personal information, including photographs taken before and after Schumacher's accident. One of the accused was a former member of Schumacher's security team.
It has been reported that the defendants sought to extort €15 million.
The former security employee is alleged to have provided materials to the other two in exchange for a "five-figure" sum. They, in turn, attempted to blackmail the family by demanding €15 million, threatening to publish the information otherwise.
Reminder: This is not the first instance of the Schumacher family facing blackmail. In 2017, a 25-year-old man was sentenced to one year and nine months probation for attempted extortion. He was also fined €4,500, required to complete 50 hours of community service, and mandated to undergo treatment.
At that time, the perpetrator demanded €900,000 from Schumacher's wife, Corinna Schumacher.
Michael Schumacher has not been seen publicly since suffering a severe head injury in a skiing accident during a family holiday in the French Alps in December 2013.
