Cameroon's Elite One: the race to succeed Colombe Sportive is on
Cameroon's professional football championship makes its big comeback on Saturday 24 January after a break of almost seven months. The first day will open with a match between Unisport and Aigle Royal in Bafang.
This will be followed on Sunday 25 January by the other matches of the day. For this new format of a single group of 14 clubs with relegation/promotion, each club is already in the starting blocks. Some are aiming to succeed the reigning champions, Colombe Sportive, while others are fighting to stay up.
Clubs likely to take the crown from Colombe Sportive
On this list of favourites for the 2025-26 season, Coton Sport is a serious contender. The most successful club in Cameroon, it has a consistent record in the league.
La Gazelle FA, which finished on the podium last season, is competitive and can aim for the top. La Panthère Sportive, runner-up to Colombe Sportive at the end of the previous season, is capable of shaking up the hierarchy.
Champion of the 2023-24 season, Victoria United can play the spoiler, as can Canon Yaoundé.
