CAF confirms Jean-Jacques Ndala for the first leg of the CAF Champions League final
The Congolese referee will take charge of the match despite the controversy.
The appointment of Jean-Jacques Ndala for the first leg of the 2025–2026 Champions League, scheduled for 17 May in Pretoria, South Africa, had sparked numerous reactions. The Congolese referee’s performance during the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations final between Senegal and Morocco had come under scrutiny.
AS FAR, Mamelodi Sundowns’ opponents in that final, had even lodged a complaint with the Confederation of African Football regarding the referee. However, according to sources, the governing body of African football will not be making any changes.
After reviewing the complaints, CAF has rejected them. Jean Jacques Ndala will therefore referee the match, along with all the officials originally appointed.
