Buchanan Bags Brace as Canada Crushes Honduras 6–0 in Gold Cup Opener


Canada made a resounding statement in their 2025 CONCACAF Gold Cup opener, thrashing Honduras 6–0 on Tuesday night at BC Place in Vancouver. As reported by Concacaf.com, Tajon Buchanan led the way with a second-half brace, while five other players contributed in a dominant team display.
Niko Sigur opened the scoring in the 27th minute, slotting home from the center of the box after a sharp one-two with Jonathan David. Just before halftime, Tani Oluwaseyi doubled the lead with a powerful left-footed finish off a Richie Laryea through ball.
Buchanan added Canada’s third in the 48th minute with a composed finish from close range, set up by Oluwaseyi. He struck again in the 65th, this time converting after a corner to seal his brace.
Promise David made it five in the 75th minute with a strike from inside the box, and Nathan Saliba capped off the rout with a curling effort into the top corner in the 90th.
Canada will look to build on this emphatic win when they face Curaçao on Saturday in Houston. Group B action continues the same day as Honduras takes on El Salvador
