Girona had a phenomenal last season, catching the eye of top European clubs. As a result, several of their key players attracted significant interest. Aleix Garcia has already moved to Bayer Leverkusen, and Artem Dovbyk has chosen AS Roma. Many Girona players returned to their parent clubs after their loan spells.

Two such players were the Brazilian talents Savio and Yan Couto, who returned to Manchester City. Despite Girona's desire to retain these players, UEFA regulations prevented the clubs from exchanging players to compete in the Champions League.

However, Yan Couto did not remain at Manchester City. Instead, he moved to Germany to join Borussia Dortmund. According to Fabrizio Romano, the German club paid Manchester City €25 million plus €5 million in bonuses for the Brazilian defender.

Yan Couto expressed his immense joy at joining Borussia Dortmund:

"For me, this is a dream come true. Borussia Dortmund is a special club. Every child in Brazil knows about the greatness of this club and its fans, enchanted by the Yellow Wall."

Manchester City purchased Yan Couto from Coritiba in 2020 for €6 million. During his time with City, he did not make an official appearance for the team. Instead, he spent three seasons on loan at Girona and one season at Braga.
