Girona has suffered a significant loss ahead of the upcoming season, with Bayer Leverkusen officially announcing the signing of Girona's captain, Aleix Garcia.

The Spanish central midfielder has signed a contract with the German champions until the summer of 2029.

The transfer fee for Aleix Garcia is reported to be €18 million, with an additional €2 million potentially coming as bonuses. This move makes Garcia the second summer signing for Bayer, following the acquisition of young central midfielder Jeanuel Belocian from Rennes.

At 26, Aleix Garcia has become the most expensive sale in Girona's history, surpassing the previous record held by Pedro Porro and Santiago Bueno, both sold for €12 million.

In the past season, Garcia played 40 matches across all competitions for Girona, scoring 3 goals and providing 6 assists. Girona finished third in La Liga last season, securing a historic qualification for the UEFA Champions League for the first time. Bayer Leverkusen, on the other hand, clinched their first-ever Bundesliga title, suffering only one defeat across all competitions throughout the season.
