Barcelona has no intention of letting refereeing mistakes slide.
Details: Today, the official page of Barcelona on social network X published a statement announcing that the club has lodged a formal complaint with UEFA against the referee of the Champions League quarterfinal match, Istvan Kovacs, who officiated their clash with Atlético.
Barcelona states that in the 54th minute, after play had resumed according to the rules, an opposing player committed a foul inside his own penalty area. However, neither the main referee nor the VAR officials considered the incident sufficient to award Barcelona a penalty.
Barcelona is also calling on UEFA to launch an investigation and grant full access to all refereeing protocols and in-game communications during the match.
In the closing remarks, Barcelona notes that such errors have occurred in previous Champions League matches involving the Catalan side, and suspiciously often, Barcelona finds itself on the wrong end of these mistakes.
Reminder: It has emerged why the referees failed to interpret the handball incident involving an Atlético defender
