Birmingham City have more than quadrupled their League One transfer record

Yesterday, the transfer window closed in England, with many clubs completing their deals. The closure affected not only the top division but also all leagues across the country.
In League One – the third tier of English football – an incredible record was set. Birmingham City, which finished 22nd in the Championship last season and was relegated, made a bold move in the transfer market to quickly return to the second tier, securing a high-profile transfer.
Birmingham signed Jay Stansfield from Fulham for an astonishing €17.8 million. Notably, the player’s market value, according to Transfermarkt, is €3.5 million. This transfer fee is a record for League One. The second most expensive signing in this league is also by Birmingham, with the club acquiring Christoph Klarer from Darmstadt. The third-highest transfer was also made by Birmingham this summer, bringing in Villum Thor Vilhjálmsson from Go Ahead Eagles for €4 million.
Before this, the most expensive transfer in League One was Will Grigg’s move from Wigan to Sunderland for €3.4 million in the 2018/19 season.
It’s worth noting that Birmingham has spent a total of €35.46 million in this summer transfer window, which is more than four times the combined spending of the other 23 League One clubs (totaling €7.853 million).
