Andrada Shines in Club World Cup But Hints at Monterrey Exit

Esteban Andrada has gone from scapegoat to savior in Monterrey. The Argentine goalkeeper, heavily criticized during the 2025 Clausura after a costly error against Toluca, has turned things around with standout performances at the FIFA Club World Cup.
Despite his resurgence, Andrada admitted in a recent interview with Radio La Red (Buenos Aires) that his future at Rayados looks uncertain. The signing of Uruguayan goalkeeper Santiago Mele surprised him and hinted at a possible departure.
"No one spoke to me. I would’ve preferred they told me to my face if they didn’t count on me, so I could look for another club. But no one said a word, and suddenly Santi Mele shows up," Andrada said, visibly frustrated with how the club handled the situation.
Still, new coach Domenec Torrent placed his trust in Andrada for the Club World Cup, where he has responded with top-level saves, against both Inter Milan and River Plate.
Yet his fate seems sealed. "The goalkeeping coach from Vélez messaged me, asking about my situation. I told him that with all the moves Monterrey is making, I’ll probably be looking for a new club. I don’t think I’ll stay," he admitted.
Andrada’s final appearance could come against Japan’s Urawa Red Diamonds, closing a cycle that began in 2021. Despite ups and downs, the Argentine may leave Rayados on a high note, showing his quality when it mattered most.
