AFCON 2025: Cyriel Dessers Breaks Silence on Injury That Ended His Tournament
Super Eagles forward Cyriel Dessers has broken his silence following his injury-forced withdrawal from the ongoing 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Dessers was ruled out of the tournament after suffering a thigh injury during a training session with the Nigerian national team in Morocco. The setback forced the striker to leave the Super Eagles camp last week and return to his club side, Panathinaikos, in Greece.
Taking to social media, the Panathinaikos striker shared an emotional message expressing his frustration and disappointment over the situation.
“Unfortunately I sustained an injury at AFCON. It’s extremely difficult to accept that I will miss the remainder of the tournament and an important period at Panathinaikos,” the striker wrote.
“I will be our biggest fan in these weeks, go full in rehab and hopefully we can celebrate a win and goal together soon.”
